A wonderful find! According to a former employee of American Greetings, this is a prototype of a Holly Hobbie doll that was being developed by American Greetings in Cleveland, Ohio, approximately 37 years ago.

After prototypes were developed and had their share of meetings, discussions, and design modifications suggested, the prototype was tossed into a storage room. When the room was full, American Greetings would allow employees to have their picks from the room as a kind of bonus for working there. This doll came from that room and was held onto over the years by the employee.

This lovely treasure is now available to you.

Holly Hobbie Prototype Doll

**10 1/2 inches tall**

**Dressed in a short, puff-sleeved green gingham dress with bloomers, ivory knee socks, and black plastic boots. The dress fastens with two snaps in back . All clothes are removable, except for her boots. Under her hair, in the back, is a green color swipe, probably to indicate that she was to be in the green dress**

**There is masking tape residue on her left arm and hand and there remains masking tape wrapped around her waist, under her clothes, but no sign of breakage is evident. The masking tape does keep her legs from moving, her arms move. Since there is masking tape residue around her arm, it seems that it may have something to do with her having been a prototype and some kind of modification that was being discussed. The heel of one boot has a very small hole, perhaps from the molding process.**

**Impressed into back of her head is: "K.T.C."**

**Impressed into her shoulder blade area is: "Holly Hobbie; American Greetings Corp. 1974; Made in Taiwan; For Knickerbocker Toy Co., Inc."**

**Because this is a prototype, some of the smaller details were skipped, such as color for the lips**

**Please note: Because this is a prototype, it was not stored or treated with much care, thus there is some wear and dirt smudges on face and hands and clothes. That being said, this sweet doll is actually in good shape overall. Please look at all photos**
