Between 1911 and 1921, items made by Noritake in Japan were marked "Nippon", which is the Japanese native word for Japan.

This changed in 1921 with the passage of the second McKinley Tariff Act. The act stated that all pieces imported to the United States were to be marked with the country of origin in English.

Imperial Nippon Serving Dish

**Approximately 7 inches wide, 1 1/4 inches tall**

**Clover-shaped dish has three small decorative handles**

**Decorated with swoops of branches and leaves and pink flowers with yellow centers, a tan band around the lower side, a green band with gold stripes around the upper side, and a bright gold rim with gold beading**

**No crazing. Has been repaired from being broken almost exactly in half. Repair looks like it was done a long time ago and was very well done. There is one small chip on the dish rim where the crack starts (you might be able to see it if you enlarge the first picture and look very closely along the rim). Because of the repair, this piece should be used to serve only dry items, such as crackers or cheese cubes, or using this beautiful dish as a pin/change dresser dish**

**Very beautiful and soothing piece to look at**

**Stamped on bottom in blue with "Imperial Nippon, Hand Painted" arranged around a highly stylized "M" with a raised five-point star**
