A stunning print that has wonderful character in every line,"Hambletonian Rubbing Down by George Stubbs (1724-1806) is in excellent condition and is a must have for horse lovers or anyone who has ever dealt with a horse's sense of humor!

The gorgeous musculature of this magnificent horse is as clearly evident as is his disdain for the man at the end of the reins!

The overall antique look of this charming artwork is further accented by the aged mat board it is mounted on and the distress marks on the gold frame.

Attached to the fabric-covered frame back is a card that states: "Painted in 1800 to record Hambletonian's dramatic victory at Newmarket on 25th March 1799. Hambletonian, who never ran again, won by half a neck over a four mile course. He was ridden by Frank Buckle, holder of the record with twenty-seven classic victories until Lester Piggott passed him by winning the 1984 St. Leger.

Permission for the reproduction of this remarkable painting was granted by The National Trust of the Londonderry collection, Mount Stewart.
