**Button was supporting William Scranton for Pennsylvania governor and Jim Van Zandt for U.S. Senate. Van Zandt lost, but Scranton won**

**Scranton went on in following years to hold such positions as chairman of the Commission on Student Unrest, which investigated the Kent State University shooting by the National Guard, and released his findings in the "Scranton Report" in which he made recommendations to help students, police officers and colleges. Scranton also served as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. His high priority of human life over politics, his style of diplomacy, and his ability to arbitrate changed the world's harsh opinion of the US**
