At the time of publication of this book, Laura Lee Hope had developed six different book series for children. Included in that collection was Make Believe Stories, 11 stories; Six Little Bunkers, 11 stories; The Bunny Brown series, 15 stories; The Bobbsey Twins series, 19 books; The Outdoor Girl Series, 16 stories; and The Blythe Girls Series, which had 5 other books in the series.

The Blythe girls were three sisters who "were left alone in New York City". Rose was straightforward, had a business-like attitude and worked in a department store. Helen was interested in art and music. Margy had just graduated from business school and was working as a private secretary.
